World's tallest building set to open in Dubai

DUBAI (Reuters) - Started at the height of the economic boom and built by some 12,000 laborers, the world's tallest building will open on Monday in Dubai as the glitzy emirate seeks to rekindle optimism after its financial crisis.

Burj Dubai, whose opening has been delayed twice since construction began in 2004, will mark another milestone for the deeply indebted emirate with a penchant for seeking new records.

Dubai, one of seven members of the United Arab Emirates, gained a reputation for excess with the creation of man-made islands shaped like palms and an indoor ski slope in the desert.

With investor confidence in Dubai badly bruised by the emirate's announcement in November that it would seek a debt standstill for one of its largest conglomerates, the Burj Dubai is seen as a positive start to the year after a bleak 2009.

The project has been scrutinized by human rights groups, who have objected to its treatment of laborers, as well as by environmentalists who said the tower would act as a power vacuum, increasing the city's already massive carbon footprint.

But despite the criticism, many say the edifice, believed to have cost $1.5 billion to build, is an architectural marvel.

The tower's height has been kept a closely guarded secret until now. Developer Emaar Properties PJSC will reveal the height -- known to exceed 800 meters (2,625 feet) -- on Tuesday and Dubai's ruler will inaugurate the opening.

Experts believe Dubai's recent financial troubles have not hurt sales of approximately 1,100 residential units in the Burj -- meaning tower in Arabic -- saying they were nearly all sold.

Dubai's real estate sector crashed at the end of 2008 when the global financial crisis hit the emirate after a six-year economic boom. Thousands of jobs were slashed and projects worth billions of dollars were canceled or delayed.

With analysts suggesting tax-free Dubai might sell some of its assets to boost revenues and slash $80 billion in debt, many wondered if the tower was on the list for grabs.

Dubai, with few natural resources of its own, expects a budget deficit of 2 percent of GDP this year.

In December, the emirate received a $10 billion lifeline from neighboring Abu Dhabi to repay a $4.1 billion bond for Nakheel, a property arm of indebted Dubai World, and other obligations.

Diddy Announces Marriage On Twitter, Then Backpedals

P. Diddy seems to have gotten so caught up in the new year’s revelry that he accidentally announced he got married.

“Juat [sic] married!” he tweeted at about 3:30 am this morning on twitter.

Two hours later the musician, whose real name is Sean John Combs, had enough of the nuptial tweeting and announced: “No I didn’t get married !!!!! Pls stop asking!!!”

However, rumours have been circulating in Hollywood that Diddy and on-off again girlfriend Kimberly Porter did actually wed on New Year’s Eve.

MediaTakeOut.com reports that celebs were showing up at St. Barts in droves last night. The big names reportedly included Jay-Z and Beyonce, Denzel Washington, Oprah and others.

Tabloids announced in 2007 that Diddy and Porter ended their relationship after having three children together.

But in mid-December of this year, rumors arose that he had dumped singer Cassie and become engaged to his ex.

His rep immediately denied the gossip.

“This rumor happens every year it isn’t true,” he said.

On twitter Diddy himself addressed his relationship with Porter, writing:

“Attention all blogs. Not getting married. Not engaged. Sorry. Where do yall get this stuff from. Have a blessed night…”

Prior to this morning’s post about marriage, Diddy tweeted new year’s wishes along with the rest of the world.

Last month, the rapper appeared at a Kid Cudi concert and voiced his thoughts on the rap industry.

"I had to get up out this motherf*cker for a second," Ye told the crowd. "I love the game so much and I'm so passionate about it that I just can't take this sh*t sometimes. And if they take everything away from me it wouldn't f*cking matter. Artists be too concerned about their well-being sometimes. Artists be too scared to stand up for something. They scared to lose they f*cking house or they scared to lose their record deal. I sold my soul to the devil, I know it's a crappy deal/At least it came with a few toys like a Happy Meal." CIARA DECIDES TO GO WATCH HER BOYFRIEND 50-CENT AFTER HER CONCERT WAS CANCELLED

Turns out immigration nixed Ciara’s $2milli Kazakhstan performance
, so she headed to Las Vegas to watch her ballin’ boyfriend 50 Cent perform instead.

We got the following email from a member of Ciara’s tour:

Heads up Bossip im currently on tour with Ciara and we just left Africa right before New Years then midway to Kazahkstan, they didn’t GREEN light our Visas so the performance was cancelled.

Sounds like Cici made the best of the situation. With her performance cancelled she was free to go see her “friend” 50.Cici was spotted at Vegas’ Pure nightclub inside Caesar’s Palace on New Year’s eve celebrating with friends while 50 performed.

As the last hour of 2009 ticked by on screens around the five-year-old club, a steady stream of guests and VIPs poured into the venue. Dressed in a sleek black ensemble of shine and lace topped with a structured blazer and shoulder pads, 24-year-old songstress Ciara stalked the red carpet outside Pure with a crew of female friends waiting to accompany her inside.

“I never really go out that often,” said the singer who is reportedly dating 50 Cent, “so I’m just excited to go out and have a good time and enjoy myself.”

50 started his performance on the Pure roof deck, welcoming 2010 with his suggestively titled song “Have a Baby By Me, Baby, Be a Millionaire.” About half an hour past midnight, the concert continued in the club’s main room.

“2010! We gonna ring it in right,” the rapper called from the stage, now out of the black brocade jacket he sported for his walk down the red carpet and wearing a white jacket and his standard issue Yankees hat.

Standing next to boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr, who obligingly held up a stack of cash, 50 launched into the first song of his roughly 45-minute set, “I Got money.” The pair played off each other throughout 50’s 13-song tour through his hits with so much chemistry, Mayweather might consider joining the music man on his next tour. When 50 called out “I get money!”, Mayweather held up his own pile of bills, fanning them out for all to see. It was like a beautiful interpretive dance, with Benjamins.

“In Da Club,” “Candy Shop,” “Magic Stick,” “Hate It Or Love It,” “P-I-M-P” and “If I Can’t” — the set list read like a track list for his greatest hits project. Surrounded by bodyguards — getting shot nine times would make anyone paranoid — 50 Cent plowed through his four-album catalog, and all the while a dapper Mayweather danced alongside, flipping off the crowd and even making it rain what looked like $100s for a moment above the packed club.

After performing for nearly an hour, 50 Cent closed out his set in an auditory hail of gunfire with the sound of shots echoing out of the speakers, as if to remind the crowd of the street legitimacy behind the now wealthy musician.

“Party time,” 50 said before the spotlight suddenly cut out and he disappeared into the crowd encircled by burly men in black.

*Shrugs* Guess
if she can’t get the money, at least she got some love…
